The excavations carried out by Armenian and foreign scientists in the Karabakh village of Azokh confirmed: people who lived there seven thousand years ago are the ancestors of modern Armenians.

Armenians are the only autochthonous people of the Armenian Highlands, they did not migrate from other regions, says doctor of biological sciences, professor Levon Eiskoposyan.

“We came to this conclusion after numerous excavations carried out in the territory of Karabakh, where we investigated more than ten caves. I will note among them the caves of Azokh and Alexan Uze, ”said Episkoposyan.

According to him, the remains of Neanderthals and fish bones were found in numerous cultural layers.

However, unlike the Azokh Cave, DNA is better preserved in the Alexan-Uze cave.

“Here we discovered the tooth of a man who lived in Karabakh about seven thousand years ago. As you know, DNA can persist in a tooth for centuries, ”noted Episkoposyan.

This discovery inspired Armenian scientists to continue further research. Examination of the detection of the DNA structure of the detected tooth was carried out at the University of Copenhagen Genetics.

“As a result, it was established that the gene of our distant ancestors corresponds to the gene of modern Armenians,” said Yepisposyan.

This is another proof that Armenians are not newcomers from other regions, but native inhabitants of the Armenian Highlands.

Since the excavations, Armenian scientists have been working closely with specialists from Russia, Ireland, Portugal, England, USA, Denmark and other countries since 1997.
