SEPTEMBER 07, 2019 – TERRORISM OF THE STATES SIGNED BY THE TURKISH AUTHORITIES:

Member of the Turkish Parliament of Armenian origin Karo Pailan appealed to the parliament with the proposal to create a commission to investigate the killings of Greeks and Armenians in Istanbul on September 6-7, 1955, in order to punish the perpetrators and pay compensation to the injured people and structures.

About this Caro Paylan made a post in his microblog on Twitter, also sharing bianet.org material about these events.

In his record, Paylan noted, in particular: “The events of September 6-7, 1955 are one of the most terrible events in the history of the Republic of Turkey, which the state has not yet looked in their faces”.

According to the official data of Turkey, as a result of these events, 73 churches, 8 Greek sanctuaries built on a water source, 2 temples, 5,538 houses and workplaces were looted and destroyed. A lot of people were killed, about 60 women were raped.

Attacks were committed against Armenians, Greeks and Jews, and as a result of impunity for these crimes tens of thousands of Armenians, Greeks and Jews left Istanbul.

Despite the clear indication of the state’s involvement in the organization and participation of Turkish officials, they continued to hold their posts and received new, higher appointments.

Karo Paylan noted that although 64 years have passed since the commission of these crimes, the Turkish parliament did not discuss them, and even if belatedly, justice should be restored by identifying the perpetrators and compensating the victims for material and moral damage.
