Garo Paylan inquiries Turkish DM about alleged plan of airstrikes against Armenia

Member of the Turkish Parliament Garo Paylan representing the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has sent an inquiry to Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar regarding a recent report revealing Turkey’s planned military operation against Armenia.

Paylan, of Armenian descent, has particularly asked the Defense Minister to clarify whether the Turkish General Staff really has an action plan of airstrikes against Armenia and whether the plan remains in force.

Secondly, the MP inquires about the reasons and objectives of such an action plan.

Finally, Paylan asks whether any steps are going to be taken to dispel the concerns caused by the report and revive the steps towards peace expectations.

An unconfirmed report by the Sweden-based Nordic Monitor claims Turkey planned a military operation against Armenia code-named ALTAY.

The report cites a secret memo that reported missing pages from classified documents which detailed the action plan.

The internal memo dated May 23, 2016 and presented to the General Staff by the Directorate of Operations, says some of the pages that included air strike operations against Armenia had gone missing. A legal investigation was launched into the incident.

According to the short memo drawn up by the inspectors to brief the General Staff, the secret plan was finalized on July 13, 2001
