Konstantin Zatulin, Vice-Chairman of the Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) of the Russian State Duma

Russian State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin referred to Garegin Nzhdeh’s article in an article published in the Moscow Komsomolets magazine. He wrote that Nzhdeh was a hero for the activities carried out during World War I and the fight against Turkey, and did not justly trust the Bolsheviks as they had agreed with Ataturk, and as a result Turkey had acquired Kars, Ardahan and other territories.

The word is 1921. It is about Russian-Turkish treaties, which is two hundred years old. Earlier, Russian analyst Stanislav Tarasov spoke about these contracts, noting that Moscow, however, twice attempted to withdraw from the treaty, but failed.

These treaties began to be talked about in the Russian political-analytical circles after the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Congress. The significance of this decision and the so-called universalism in the Armenian environment do not seem to be realized in the wider international context, but the same cannot be said for Moscow, Baku and Ankara in 1921. about the “beneficiaries” of the contracts who have understood this well.

Baku immediately spoke of Nakhichevan, and a spokesman for the Ankara embassy in Baku stated that Armenia does not recognize the Turkish border, which was set in 1921. by contracts. He stated that relations with Armenia can be normalized after Armenia “liberates Karabakh”, recognizes the border with Turkey and renounces territorial and other demands.

It is clear that Ankara does not care about Karabakh. Turkey’s “territorial integrity” is just as vulnerable, as Turkey and Azerbaijan are formed on territories seized from Armenia, which Zatulin speaks of.

Zatulin is going to hold a regular session of the Lazarevski Committee in Yerevan. Prior to the previous sessions, the Journal raised a question before the Armenian participants of that committee: Are they going to raise the 1921 session? the issue of Russian-Turkish treaties. The committee’s Armenian participants regularly speak out against the new authorities, accusing them of “nationalist politics”. This is a great opportunity to show their national character and raise the issue of that treaty and especially the secret protocols, especially since Zatulin himself has spoken about it if they fear Moscow’s anger. And what the discussion of this issue will give, at least in the Artsakh issue.

After the adoption of the Armenian resolution in the US Congress, wide opportunities for foreign policy are opened for Armenia. Can Armenia, the Armenian public-political “establishment”, the mass media think about this in their free time from internal clashes?
