The opening ceremony monument in Constantinople to commemorate Jouanshir, chief organizer of the massacre of the Armenians of Baku in 1918
DECEMBER 19, 2019 –
The official opening ceremony of the memorial stone of the Minister of Internal Affairs of the First Republic of Azerbaijan Behbut Khan Jouanshir took place in Constantinople. Recall that Jouanshir was the main organizer of the massacres of Armenians in Baku in 1918.
Less than expected, the consul general of Azerbaijan near Constantinople Mesim Hadjiyev, the mayor of Beyoglu district of Istanbul and the deputy mayor of Constantinople attended the opening ceremony. Hachiyev expressed hope that by placing the monument, 2 million tourists passing through the region would be able to get to Jouanshir daily.
It is noteworthy that the monument was placed in the background of Beyoglu where on July 18, 1921, Armenian avenger Misak Torlakian executed Jouanshir in the middle of the Nemesis operation.
The state-run Anatolian news agency in Turkey said the Azeri consulate, the municipality of Istanbul and the Turkish Foreign Ministry supported the memorial.
