Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev participate in the discussion of the Karabakh settlement, Munich, Germany, February 15, 2020.
Following a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Munich, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan published a post on his Facebook page, in which he outlined six principles for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The leader of Armenia called them the “Munich Principles.”
“1. Nagorno-Karabakh gained independence in the same way as Azerbaijan.
2. Nagorno-Karabakh is a party to the conflict and negotiations, without negotiations it is impossible to resolve the conflict.
3. There are no territories, there is security: Nagorno-Karabakh cannot cede its security.
4. It is impossible to resolve the conflict in one or two actions: in the negotiation process, “micro-revolution”, then “mini-revolution”, then breakthroughs are needed.
5. Any solution to the problem should be acceptable to the people of Armenia, the people of Karabakh and the people of Azerbaijan, and Armenia and Karabakh are ready to make serious efforts to find such a solution. Azerbaijan must also demonstrate such readiness.
6. The Nagorno-Karabakh issue has no military solution. If someone says that the issue has a military solution, the people of Karabakh will say that it has been resolved long ago, ”Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated.
Recall that on the eve of Munich, Nikol Pashinyan had a brief meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. After a meeting on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference with the participation of the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan, a discussion of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem took place.
The discussion lasted about 45 minutes. The moderator was Chairman of the America-Russia Fund, Celeste Wallander. Pashinyan and Aliyev delivered speeches.
