BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 A.M.) – Major General Ahmed al-Mismari, the spokesman for the General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA), accused Turkey on Friday of bombing their forces as they were peacefully withdrawing from the city of Tarhouna.
“We received international demands to retreat 60 km from the Tripoli border, and we withdrew from the Tarhouna area to safe areas,” Al-Mismari said at a press conference.
“Tarhouna witnessed security chaos, and the international community must shoulder its full responsibilities,” he continued.
“The Turkish invaders did not abide by any commitment during our withdrawal … and the Turkish drones continued to target us despite the ceasefire that we announced,” Mismari said.
He pointed out that “many countries and international organizations have formed a bloc that pressured us to return to the dialogue table and work with the 5 + 5 agreement to coordinate between the two sides. There were other arrangements, which were the declaration of a ceasefire and a retreat 60 km from the vicinity of the capital, Tripoli, in order to keep the specter of the battle fromcCivilians, and we, for our part, responded to these repeated calls for our right to the blood of the Libyans. ”
He said: “We tried to persuade world public opinion to separate the two issues of fighting terrorism, politics, which do not concern us as a general leadership, and that what matters most in the first place in fighting crime is that we are legitimate forces recognized by the people and parliament.”
He added: “Because of the war, our people have been displaced from their homes and displaced out of Libya, and that our country is exposed to violations, the most important of which is to dispel the capabilities of the state and conclude suspicious agreements, especially what Fayez al-Sarraj did with Turkey in front of the eyes of the world.”
Al-Mismari stressed that the international community, especially the countries that communicated with the General Command, should be held responsible for what is happening in the areas from which the army withdrew, as it was unable to stop the Turkish aggression in those areas and the targeting of civilians in Tarhouna and Bani Walid
He said: “We know that Turkey is a member of NATO and that it has a huge arsenal, and that this arsenal has been used to target those areas, and therefore we as an army face a force that is part of NATO, and that there are those who tried to push the alliance into battle and this is what will appear in the coming days.”
