Libyan Army reveals new details about attack on Turkish air defenses

By News Desk -2020-07-06 – North Africa – Turkey:

BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:40 P.M.) – The Director of the Department of Moral Guidance in the Libyan National Army, General Khaled Mahjoub, stated on Sunday that targeting the Al-Watiyah Airbase in western Libya resulted in the death of a number of “Erdogan’s mercenaries.”

He said in an interview with the Egyptian channel Sada Al-Balad that “the death toll of Turkish forces was in the dozens and the strike was not expected and came at the appropriate time and revealed to Erdogan what he will face on the soil of Libya.”

He continued, “The targeting of Al-Watiyah Airbase was painful and was carried out through nine airstrikes.

Mahjoub considered that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan “will restore his accounts in Libya after the destruction of his defense system at the Al-Watiyah Airbase,” noting that “the Libyan people will not allow the return of the Brotherhood to the region.”

He added that targeting the Al-Watiyah Airbase “succeeded in achieving the goals by 90%,” noting that the strike resulted in the death of 12 elements, including a “senior commander.”

It is noteworthy to mention the Al-Watiyah Airbase was subjected to air raids on Saturday night, and Libyan media mentioned the destruction of “Turkish air defense systems” at the base as a result of the bombing.

For its part, the Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) accused “foreign warplanes” of carrying out this devastating attack.
