The tense relations between Russia and Turkey following the downing by Turkey of a Russian military plane have caused more uproar in Bulgaria. As reports “Armenpress”, citing the Turkish Milliyet, leader of Bulgaria’s Rights and Freedoms Movement political party has been dismissed for supporting Turkey in regard to the downing of the Russian plane.

The honorary chairman of the party Ahmet Dogan was frustrated when the Turkish chairman of the party Lutvi Mestan read a statement expressing his support to Turkey in regard to the downing of the Russian military jet.

Dogan convoked a session and dismissed Mestan. Lutvi Mestan, who has been deprived of security guards, has asked for shelter from the Turkish Embassy in Sofia and has moved there with his children. It is reported that Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has intervened and has called his Bulgarian counterpart, asking him to support Mestan, but Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov has said he won’t be supporting any party.

On November 24, the Russian SU-24 jet was downed with a sky missile released by Turkish air forces at a 1 km distance from the Turkish border in the territory of Syria and fell at a distance of 4 km from the Turkish border. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin referred to the downing by the Turkish air forces of the Russian SU-24 military jet in the aerial territory of Syria as “a backstab” against Russia from “the accomplices of terrorists”.

“Tha t is out of the scope of the ordinary fight against terrorism. Today’s loss is linked to backstab from the accomplices of terrorists. I can’t refer to today’s incident in any other way,” Putin said.
