HAKOB BADALYAN – Armenia has guaranteed the most important thing. who made a deal with Baku

Speaking on July 18 in front of the Armenian Defense Ministry, the highest command staff of the army and referring to the situation in Tavush, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also touched upon the topic of energy and transport infrastructure considered in that context. The point is that Armenia’s border posts are such that they allow “in the palm of your hand” to control the north-western regions of Azerbaijan, through which oil, gas and railway infrastructure to the West passes.
Azerbaijan is trying to turn this circumstance into a self-defense propaganda tool, presenting that the Armenian forces are a threat to the uninterrupted operation of those infrastructures.
“But the most important proof of the absurdity of this idea is that Armenia theoretically had the opportunity to take such an action even before the events of last week. But such a goal has never been, is not, because it has not been on our political agenda, there is no economic, political, military-political, security instability in the region and in the world, creating threats and will not be. Our task is to ensure our sovereignty, our borders, the security of our country and people, and also to ensure global security. “And it has become clear in recent days that Azerbaijan poses a threat not only to Armenia but also to global security,” Pashinyan said.
This is an important statement in the current situation, with rather subtle accents. The point is that there were also assessments that Armenia should guarantee the international community, European partners not to hit those infrastructures and their security.
Armenia has no problem giving such guarantees, and there are several reasons for that. First, Armenia’s task is to ensure its own security, the security of its own people by all possible means and tools, which is also a guarantee of regional and international security. Because Azerbaijan and Turkey will not only export oil and gas to Europe through the Caucasus, but also threaten and blackmail Europe after resolving Armenia’s security issue, and oil and gas will only serve that. Our European partners should know that the Armenian positions are European and international security positions, and Armenia, by guaranteeing its security, can guarantee the security of Europe.
In addition, the European partners who cooperated with Turkey and Azerbaijan on these channels were probably aware of Azerbaijan’s threats against Armenia, the unfinished war, the calls for war from Baku, so they imagined that there was a danger and their channels would pass. danger zone. Therefore, they have taken that risk, and Armenia has no obligation to compensate for that risk. Accordingly, if they are concerned about the security of the pipelines, and even if it is not the same as who in Europe needs them and who does not, they should demand guarantees from Baku that it will not take steps that would pose a threat to the pipelines.
Armenia has no intention to target them and the first person of Armenia states about it quite clearly. But Armenia has an opponent who threatens Yerevan and propagates hatred against Armenians at the official level, who targets the civilian population and threatens to fire a missile at the nuclear power plant. Accordingly, dealing with such an adversary, Armenia has absolutely no need to take care of the interests of the parties that have established economic partnership with that adversary.
There is a well-known Armenian folk saying, “pilaf is not distributed during a fight.” If there is a war, no one can guarantee the security of any target. Moreover, Armenia does not need to take unnecessary and unnecessary guarantees. Armenia guarantees something much more important for the international community – existential security.
