“We fought for protection of our hearth. We did not have anywhere else to go, and the Azerbaijanis at any price wanted to take possession of our homeland. At that time they had managed to burn and loot 18 houses,” said Musayelian, emphasizing that the aim of protecting own homes gave them strength and courage to fight.

During  the Artsakh Liberation War the Krkzhan district of capital Stepankert suffered 20 losses.

On the occasion of the 24th  anniversary of Krkzhan liberation, a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Artsakh Liberation War has been erected in the Krkjan district.

In 1991 Azerbaijan turned Krkzhan into a weapon emplacement, and fired at Stepanakert. Pressure operations of Krkzhan weapon emplacements began in 1991 on Dec.26. The district was liberated on January 20, 1992. Military experts consider the Krkzhan liberation as one of the biggest successes of the NKR Defense Army.
