Armenia’s demands on Turkey were formulated at the state level. This was stated at the National Assembly during traditional briefings on January 25 by the secretary of the parliamentary faction of the opposition bloc “Armenia” Artsvik Minasyan, commenting on the statement of the Prime Minister of the Republic Nikol Pashinyan, who pointed out their absence.
The MP drew attention to a number of statements made by Pashinyan during a press conference. In particular, according to the latter, not a single government in Armenia has ever questioned the territorial integrity of Turkey. According to Minasyan, this may be the result of ignorance or simple negligence. “If this is a specially voiced statement, which we assess as directed against the Armenian statehood and people, then Nikol Pashinyan, in fact, once again allowed himself to commit a state crime. This is a betrayal,” the oppositionist stressed.
The MP recalled that back in 2011, a state commission was established to prepare events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. It included the president, the prime minister, the speaker of parliament, Catholicos, representatives of the diaspora and other high-ranking officials. “The Commission adopted a Declaration on behalf of Armenia, where it was written in black and white: “The Commission expresses the will of Armenia and the Armenian people on the issue of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and overcoming its consequences.” The Treaty of Sevres is also noted here. In other words, we have formulated requirements at the state level. This is one of the most important elements of the Hay Dat agenda. Thus, the issue of the recognition of the Genocide and demands on Turkey is not only about the Diaspora,” Artsvik Minasyan stressed.
