Greek diplomat, Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos former Secretary General of BSEC warns against Baku’s cultural fascism in the occupied territories of Artsakh

Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos, Greece’s first Ambassador to Armenia and former Secretary General of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC) made a statement on the threats to Armenian cultural heritage in Artsakh, noting that Azerbaijan’s creation of a working group responsible for erasing the Armenian origin of the Armenian heritage looted from the territory of occupied Artsakh. The Armenian translation of the statement was featured by the Armenian Embassy in Greece on its Facebook page.
Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos expressed concern about “Azerbaijan’s creation of a working group to destroy the Armenian presence and places of Armenian worship in the territories occupied by Artsakh following the recent Baku war” that he called “cultural fascism.” Under the false pretext that these places of worship belong to the Caucasian Albanians, Christian temples, and all traces of the Armenian presence must be eliminated, worries the former ambassador.
The Caucasian Albanian Church was an autonomous Church. It was established for a short time in the 5th century. In 705 it was subordinated to the Armenian Apostolic Church. The Albanian alphabet was created by Mesrop Mashtots, who created the Armenian alphabet in 405, then created the Albanian alphabet. Therefore, it is impossible for the Armenian Church to use the Albanian temples for its benefit. These Armenian churches in Artsakh are definitely Armenian.
Leonidas Chrysanythopoulos concludes “Baku’s objective is to commit cultural genocide, for that it must be condemned”. Source Artsakhpress.
