< Crimes of Turkey against the Armenian people, humanity and civilization, over the past 100 years >
Raymond Rupén Berberian – Previous Article:
The Armenians of Constantinople “Bolis” were generally respectable people, great industrialists and famous professionals, people who sent their children to study to Europe and the United States, always elegant and to the cry of the latest fashion of Pa laugh.
They regularly traveled around the world in purchasing machinery and accessories to improve the production of their factories and industries which met the country’s needs and exported to Europe.
They were generally wealthy and fun people. He trusted to be in a cosmopolitan city where there were delegations and embassies from all over the world that nothing would touch him by the wind about the start of a “holy war” against Armenians and Christians. They were a select people, mostly Masons.
Being a Freemason at that time was a sign of notoriety, of aristocracy, a kind of co-ordination and brotherhood with the Turkish Masons and the world, who assured them that being Freemasons they were safe, protected by their Turkish Masonic brothers.
And those same “Turks” were the ones who eventually gave them away and handed them over to the mob like Judas. The betrayal was stronger than them. Reminds me of the morale of the toad and the scorpion that wanted to cross the pond..
The Turks took care of that detail until they finally couldn’t against their nature and in one night they detained more than six hundred personalities of the renowned Armenians; drove them inside and massacred them all.
Upon hearing what had happened, the Armenians of Constantinople began to sell their properties, auction their belongings to leave the country. Many had their finances secured in the European banks; these were saved; others, who trying to board a ship were detained, reviewed and stripped of the gold, the algae and precious stones they were putting under threat of rape r their wives and daughters and kill them all.
Armenians in the interior of the country usually used to store their fortune in clay jugs and hide it somewhere in the basements or on the walls.
Armenians in the interior of the country, before deporting them, were forced to sign the donation of their houses, goods and properties to the State.
Turkey undoubtedly enriched itself from the fortune of millions of Armenians massacred and deported.
My parents’ family in (Dicranaguerte) Diyarbekir, lived sluggishly, owned stables and cultivated their land. In 1914, a year before the revolt, as was custom among Armenian Christian families, to pilgrimage every year to the Holy Land and pray before the Holy Sepulchre.
Buying presents and coming back But this year events prevented them from returning. Many years later, Charles, an uncle of mine, the eldest of the four brothers of the Berberian family lived in Mass, United States and from there tried to return to Diyarbekir to be reunited with his past at his paternal home. He was a stranger in the land of his ancestors. Actually his goal was something else.
Being the eldest son of the family, his father had entrusted him with where he hid the family’s gold. Charles was the only one who knew where the jar that contained the Berberian family’s fortune was hidden.
When he arrived there, he found his parents’ house inhabited by Kurds who, upon seeing him dressed in a mamaracho, American style, warned him what he was coming. They told him what he was coming for he was gone.
Actually the Christian villages in the interior of Turkey were the most punished, the most familiar with the Turkish’s savagery, sadism and natural cruelty. Along with the Kurds, Armenian young girls were stripped; after raping them, they were crucified on wooden crosses while shouting: Now may your Christ come and help you! Others were burned into the fire, alive.
Deportations to Syria’s Deir Ezzor Desert had begun, other caravans were being driven to Mosul in Iraq. In the Euphrates, corpses and blood-stained waters could already be seen floating.
The implementation of the deportations was led by a German Grand Friedrich Bronsart Von Shellendorf. Several German generals were members of the Turkish General Staff. Grail. Liman Von Sanders had been promoted to Marshal for Turkey. Germans being Christians condoned the massacres against the Armenian people. Thousands of Armenian schools and churches were demolished, turned into stables, barracks and mosques before their eyes.
A paradox: Naim Shahin Idis (Turkish Interior Minister) said: “Our greatest strength is the equality and friendship of the Turkish nation with Christian minorities and the rest of the world.” Turkey was always opposed to tyranny and supported the oppressed
When the Palestinian uprising broke out and European imperialist terrorism of the Pretty Girl, and mortar shells rained on our homes in Yafa, Palestine, my father, his wife, his daughter and I had to leave the city and flee for us after lives.
My father had enlisted two closet-type suitcases brought from Paris, with the most valuable things we had, including the inscriptions of our estate.
Resolved to board a ship docked in the sea bound for Bairut, Lebanon. Truck moved us to the harbor. The driver and his assistant deposited their suitcases on the platform, charged them and disappeared with their truck.
There we were notified that because the ship was anchored in the sea, it was reached only in boats with six passengers seated, no suitcases, no lumps.
We were between the sword and the wall. We had to opt for life, abandoning the suitcases with all their contents in the harbor.
Total United Nations would soon resolve the conflict and we would return home, compensated and start again.
A lot of water has passed under the bridges. My father died, my stepmother and her daughter settled in France and I came to Bs. As. Argentina, after rolling my hump around the world in hopes of a better day and here I am on the track of a train that doesn’t arrive.
