The photo shows the renowned Armenian-American physician and scientist Raymond Vahan Damadian, creator and inventor of the MRI machine.

The son of a family that survived the genocide, Raymond Damadian set himself an important goal: to help others. He was the first to demonstrate that cancerous and healthy cells react differently to a magnetic field, and this idea became the basis for the creation of a revolutionary new diagnostic device in medicine.

In 1977, Damadian created the first MRI machine, named “Indomitable,” meaning unbreakable and persistent. Damadian gave this name to his invention because it symbolized his firm desire to help humanity.

Today, MRI is one of the safest and most reliable diagnostic methods, and many know that the creator of this miracle device was an Armenian doctor who wasn’t limited to conventional treatments but constantly sought new ways to protect human health.
