Scientists from around the world regularly talk about the peculiarities of the Armenian gene in historical and archaeological studies of this or that continent taking data from studies, or based on the results of research on Armenian artifacts that have breathed for thousands of years.
A new study was recently reported that the mitochondrial DNA of Armenian women has practically not changed over the past 8 thousand years. This is the conclusion reached by researchers from the Center for Geogenetics at the Natural History Museum of Denmark.
Mitochondria are passed down from mother to child. Thus, the study of mitochondrial genomes allows scientists to follow the unique history of women over time.
“We have studied ancient and modern mitochondrial genomes in some parts of the South Caucasus and have found genetic continuity of no less than 8 thousand years,” said Ashot Margaryan and Morten E. Alentoft from the Center for Geogenetics. “That is, we have not been able to detect any changes in the female gene pool over this very long period of time.
This is very interesting because during the same period, this region experienced many cultural shifts, but these changes apparently did not have a genetic impact, at least not on the female population,” they said.
The researchers were interested in studying this part of the world because of its location at a cultural crossroads since ancient times, which is also known as an important region for the possible origin and spread of Indo-European languages.
To shed light on the genetic history of the mother in the region, the researchers analyzed the complete mitochondrial genomes of 52 ancient skeletons from modern Armenia and Artsakh, covering a historical period of 7,800 years.
In addition, the specialists studied the mitochondrial genomes of 206 modern Armenians, as well as the DNA of 482 representatives of neighboring populations.
The data obtained show that the female population, at least in some parts of the South Caucasus, has been remarkably stable, despite cultural changes that have occurred over thousands of years.
They also suggest that emigration in this region over the past 2,000–3,000 years has had little impact on the local female population.
Unfortunately, most Armenian and foreign scholars are far from including answers to spiritual questions in the scope of material studies, and they find it difficult to give real answers alongside factual reality. The discovery is considered inexplicable and surprising…

An interesting article was published in the journal Current Biology, which presented heredity in the Caucasus. It shows that from the end of the 7th millennium BC to the present day, the people living here are in hereditary continuity.”
According to him, according to archaeological materials and discussions, we have gone through different stages of cultures, but genetic analyses on the maternal line indicate that the population living here has essentially not changed, and this has been confirmed by “five methodologies accepted in biology, and these are valuable data for illuminating the problems of Armenian history and Armenian genealogy.”

The director of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the NAS added that this study was conducted only on the maternal line and soon the analysis on the paternal line will also become clear.

That the only natives of the Armenian Highlands are Armenians, and until the loss of the powerful Armenian statehood, it was the Armenians who were the owners and creators of all the ancient state formations of the Armenian Highlands…

It should be noted that there are various DNA research programs, one of which, launched in 2009, over the course of 4 years, about 800 Armenians were able to find out what nation their ancestors belonged to, where they lived, and what they did. And in terms of his genetic description, the modern Armenian man is closest to our common ancestor.
According to “Armenpress”, this was announced at a meeting with journalists by the Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the RA NAS, Doctor of Historical Sciences Pavel Avetisyan and the Head of the Ethnogenomics Laboratory of the Institute of Molecular Biology, Doctor of Historical Sciences Dr., Professor Levon Episkoposyan, presenting the results of the research conducted jointly with the University of Copenhagen Center.
For the research, 101 ancient DNA samples were subjected to laboratory analysis, brought from different regions of Eurasia: from Denmark, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Montenegro, Poland, Russia and Sweden.
For the first time, the study included 8 DNA samples of people excavated from different archaeological sites of the Bronze-Iron Ages in Armenia.
“Among the DNA samples collected in the Caucasus and the Middle East, the DNA indicators of today’s Armenian people and the anthropological remains found in Armenia are the closest to each other. This is exceptional data indicating hereditary continuity,” explained Pavel Avetisyan.
“We have received an exciting, positive response. The Bronze Age materials found in the territory of present-day Armenia have a genetic profile that is almost indistinguishable from the genetic profile of today’s Armenians, which indicates that this territory has been inhabited continuously,” Professor Levon Episkoposyan emphasized, adding that this is just the beginning of the work.
Addressing the question of whether the results of the samples obtained in the territory of modern Armenia can also be attributed to Western Armenia and the Armenian Highlands, archaeologist Pavel Avetisyan explained: “The materials obtained from archaeological monuments in the territory of modern Armenia are ancient sites representing certain cultures, which have a distribution area that extended to the territories of the Armenian Highlands, outside of modern Armenia.
If we excavate something in Kapan and provide these materials for study, we, in essence, also get a picture of the distribution area of these cultures in general.”
And the hereditary continuity of the modern Armenian man and the man of the 4th millennium BC is due to the fact that the local population, due to its faith and national characteristics, was isolated and did not assimilate en masse with other peoples. Armenian scientists note and emphasize that this is a phenomenal phenomenon.
